Summary, etc. In the current context of continuously improving customer service by managing uncertainties and shortening lead times, logistics and supply chain management are crucial areas of management and national focus. Though India spends over 12 per cent of its GDP on logistics, customer value provided is unsatisfactory. Scope for value addition through mare effective logistics and supply chain management is enormous. This book is a compilation of cases and notes documenting various problem contexts and their resolution approaches. The contents are organized in three parts, consisting of seven notes and 25 case studies. The notes cover the introduction to logistics management, evolution to supply chain management, doing better logistics and supply chain management through the use of information technology , analytical models, infrastructure management and structure and system. The writing of the cases covers the past decade, showing the managerial responses in a liberalizing context. The cases presented in the book are positioned along key decision areas and classified systematically to allow the reader to easily and speedily access the cases relevant to their context. This book is primarily intended as a study text for case-based modules and courses on logistics and supply chain management as a part of training and educational programmes in management. It will also serve as a useful practical handbook for the key actors involved in efficient and effective logistic systems-the shippers, the suppliers of logistics services and the regulators of logistics. This book would also proved an educative reading and reference for managers dealing with logistics and supply chain management.
