The book is divided into four sections. Section one covers emerging issues in Indian financial markets with topics related to recent developments and challenges of Indian financial markets. The demographic, spiritual and ethical factors which affect investment decisions of the Indian investor have been discussed. Variousstrategies to understand and explore investor behaviour have also been covered. The impact of the financial meltdown on Indian economy and creditworthiness of BRIC nations have been discussed in this section. Section two focusses on Indian capital markets and developments related to it. It covers chapters related to the impact of foreign investment on stock markets, potential for growth in the Indian bond market. Relevance of Black Scholes Option Pricing Model, effi cient market hypothesis, event studies and predicting stock market crashes have also been covered. Section three relates to the Indian banking industry and challenges related to it. There are research contributions about the profitability of the banking sector, service quality in bancassurance, banking ombudsman, role of venture capital, credit risk management, non-performing assets and self-help groups and bank linkages. Section four covers Indian financial services with the primary focus being mutual funds, private equity andventure capital and wealth creation by mergers and acquisitions. We feel that contributions of this research effort would help researchers, policy-makers, participants in the financial markets and regulatory bodies to move ahead with reforms in financial markets.
