The Hound of the Baskervilles is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's third crime novel featuring Sherlock Holmes. Set in Devon, it revolves around an attempted murder inspired by a supernatural hound. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson investigate the case. Written after returning from South Africa, it was the first appearance of Holmes since "The Final Problem." Doyle's popularity led to the character's appearance in subsequent short stories, including The Return of Sherlock Holmes, His Last Bow, and The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes.
