Summary: This book attempts to present those ideas and techniques of modern algebra which have proved most useful for these areas. Although some separation is inevitable between the discussion of mathematical principles and their applications, we have tried to weave together the under-lying ideas and the technical algorithms which are based on them. The book begins by presenting and illustrating the notions of set, function, mathematical induction, binary relation, and graph. Discussions are also included of Boolean algebras, monoids, morphisms, and other basic algebraic concepts.
