The book brings out the problems as well as strategies and initiatives to resolve them for accelerated development of the power sector. In order to ensure electrification of all villages in the country, the supply of electricity has been accepted as a basic minimum service and the Ministry of Power in this document has prepared an action plan for the provision of electricity to all villages by end of the Tenth Plan and all households by the end of the Eleventh Plan. The second document included in this volume is the Report of the Distribution Policy Committee of Ministry of power. The report highlights the importance of distribution reforms if electricity sector is to turnaround and become self sustaining. The Report has discussed the present structure of distribution and the strategy for reforms relating to improvement in efficiency of operations.
